Summary
  • Digital Realty’s BCN1 facility has been added to lyntia’s DC Connect network.
  • DC Connect combines Ethernet, internet and cloud connectivity through lyntia infrastructure.
  • lyntia says its footprint reaches more than 70% of Iberian data centres.

lyntia has added Digital Realty’s BCN1 facility in Barcelona to its DC Connect platform, extending private interconnection, internet and cloud connectivity into another major Iberian data centre.

The wholesale fibre operator says its DC Connect footprint now reaches more than 70% of data centres across Iberia, with presence in Spain, Portugal and Marseille. The percentage is a lyntia measure rather than an independently audited market share.

DC Connect allows customers to combine Ethernet, internet and cloud services through a single connection architecture. lyntia’s wider service specification supports private E-Line and E-LAN Ethernet connectivity, cloud access and internet services across its fibre and MPLS networks.

Adding BCN1 creates another place where customers can connect Digital Realty infrastructure to systems in other facilities without sending every workload across the public internet.

Network diversity depends on the underlying route

Private interconnection can improve control over bandwidth, latency and failover between data centres, but the resilience of the service depends on the physical fibre beneath the logical connections.

Two circuits supplied under different service names can still share a duct, cable route or intermediate network node. A genuine resilience design therefore requires operators to understand where paths converge as well as how many connections appear on the network diagram.

lyntia says DC Connect supports redundancy at port, service and cloud region level. Its service can also provide connections from 1Gbps to 100Gbps depending on location, allowing capacity to be increased as traffic grows.

The Barcelona addition is relevant because the city combines local data centre demand with access to Mediterranean connectivity routes. Workloads hosted there may need to reach Madrid, Lisbon, Marseille, cloud regions or subsea systems rather than remaining within a single metro area.

Digital Realty’s BCN1 consequently gains another carrier option rather than additional electrical or computing capacity. The new connection changes how customers can reach infrastructure inside the facility, not how many racks or megawatts the building can support.

Distributed applications make that distinction increasingly important. Data can sit in one facility while processing takes place in another, requiring predictable connectivity between storage, compute and cloud services.

Disaster recovery creates a similar requirement. Replication only protects a workload if enough bandwidth exists to keep secondary systems current and the alternate site remains reachable when the primary route fails.

AI infrastructure can increase those network volumes because large datasets may move between storage systems and compute clusters. The engineering requirement varies by workload, but expensive processors can be left waiting where the network cannot supply data at the required rate.

lyntia launched DC Connect across 100 Iberian data centres in 2025 and says the service uses its own fibre footprint alongside more than 350 MPLS nodes in 200 cities. BCN1 extends that established platform rather than introducing a new network architecture.

The operational value for customers will depend on the destinations they need to reach and the route diversity available between them. Adding another connected data centre expands those choices, while the design of the underlying fibre paths determines how much additional resilience they provide.
